The magic of words ...
The written word is a glorious invention. Before, computer's,paper and pen we only had our voice. Now we can record what we want to say. I find it fascinating that we can gain understanding and wisdom as we take the time to read what others have written. We get to have a glimpse into the minds of the writer for a brief time as we are taught something we may not even know we learned until later.
Think of the power we have with words. Teachers teach the content of words, expanding the knowledge, so that we can grow. We learn about traditions, cultures, the way people live and we get to read about current events and world news. We read words to take us places we haven't even dreamed about.
Think about it, we are given a gift to pass on for generations to come. Speak the truth, fantasize, and let your creativity broaden the world of others. As writers don't we do this for ourselves? I know I do.
As my mother has always told me, "The world is at your fingertips." She is literally correct. I write and new characters, places and worlds are born.
I love the magic of words.
About Me
- Tory Lynn
- Everyday that I get to sit down and write, I get to live part of my dream. Writing romance has been a dream of mine ever since I read my first romance novel. The underlying theme I carry in all of my work is overcoming difficulty, believing in oneself and achieving dreams. It isn't hard to look to the stars and dream the impossible, because the only thing that stops you is your imagination.

A Romance Writer's Office
I'm loving my new little office. I finally have a space all to myself that I can keep my books and writing material in. I keep a space heater in it, so when I get chilled, I can turn it on and quickly get warmed up.
I'm slowly getting it organized and fixed up the way I like it. I will only have decorations that have good memories attached to them and some items that keep me inspired.
I may not keep it organized all the time and things will probably be a little cluttered, but I like it this way. I need to feel as if I can take my shoes off, not have my hair done, or work in my pajamas if I want. After all it is a place I will expand my imagination to new heights as my fiction worlds grow.
I am looking forward to creating characters, making up places and describing them in full detail. The walls of my little office will soon be my audience as I bounce ideas off of them letting my imagination take flight to new possibilities.

The Golden Rule
I find it interesting that some people preach about being the bigger person, but when they have the chance to make things right, they don't. I don't like confrontation as much as the next person, but if I'm wrong, I admit it, talk about it and try to move forward with it. It is amazing how far an "I'm sorry" will go if you really mean it and acknowledge it to the person who needs to hear it.
It means the world the the person who deserves the apology when the other person takes the initiative to do the right thing by them and admits they were wrong and then is willing to talk about it.
Think of the benefits for everyone if people were willing to admit they are only human and they too make mistakes.
Is it wrong for me to expect an apology? No, of course not. I don't expect anyone to do things I won't personally do for others. As a human being, I deserve it, just like anyone else does.
I have to add though, because this is something I have personally seen some people do. I've seen someone give an apology and the person receiving it looked down their nose at the person and then they have the audacity to take the apology and use it to put the person down, making an already precarious situation worse.
I imagine hurt/pride/control/insecurity issues have a lot to do with it for some, but sometimes they just have to let the hurt/pride/control/insecurity issues go and humble themselves to the person, because if your aren't careful you will not be trusted again.
Also, it is exhausting to be around people who constantly point the finger at others and refuse to look at themselves. It brings the moral down and makes it difficult to be around them. Think about it. Can you really relax, or be yourself when you are always on edge knowing that if your not careful the finger pointer is always there taking the opportunity to drive a stick in the works causing an overload of upheaval?
Can you trust that person?
I ask, as many people do, where is the common decency in people?
Is the Golden Rule too good for some to reciprocate?
Everyone should take some time to reflect on themselves, yes even me, because I know I'm not perfect. It takes courage to admit your wrong. Remember it builds character when you make mistakes and then choose to do the right thing by others. It makes you the kind of person others want to be around and people learn to respect you.
Remember, you don't get respect by being a bully, you earn it by treating people like you want to be treated and taking responsibility for yourself.
That my friend is the the Golden Rule.

Holiday Blessings
With the Holidays upon us, that magical feeling of hope comes alive as we anticipate special moments with those we love and care about. It is a special time, because we are more sensitive to the memories and feelings of what makes the holiday season so special. We are also very sensitive to the memories and feelings of the hurts and disappointments we have had in the past. We dare to hope, to dream that those hurts and disappointments can be put to rest, so we can put them behind us.
The memories of those who are no longer with us grow strong. We miss their laughter, their quirky ways, and their hugs. We feel their presence as we go about our daily business as our schedules get busier. We take on more to prepare for special gatherings with family, friends, and co-workers. We celebrate the living and honor the the ones who have passed while making new memories with each passing moment.
The holidays brings on laughter and tears. It's a powerful combination of happiness and sadness, because we all have our stories. They are as individual as our fingerprints. No two stories are the same. We see things a little differently than the next, because of how we feel and what we believe.
I think all of us can agree though, that no matter how differently we feel, or believe, it is the little things in life that make the biggest impact in our lives. Those little things can be life altering moments.
This holiday season, join in, be apart of something special. No matter how you give, you are special, you matter. Yes, I'll say it again ..., YOU ARE SPECIAL, AND YOU MATTER. The most valuable thing 'you' can give, is your time.
Make the time you have count, so when you look back on the years you lived, you can say, I have no regrets. Think of the memories you will leave behind. When you are apart of other people's lives, they will remember you. They will remember the good you do. They will remember your laughter, your tears and most importantly they will remember you with love.
Today is a gift, so treat it as one and be the best that you can be.
Love to all, and may you be blessed with God's love.

Thoughts for Fall ... Be Confident
Yesterday was the first day of Fall. The weather is getting a little cooler, the leaves are changing colors and there is an anticipation of the holidays. It is the first fall I've spent in Washington since I was eighteen years old. Many years have passed by since I was that uncertain young woman who was facing life. I was scared and unsure and I spent a long time looking for my identity. Now I want to share this.
I am a woman, I am strong. I know what I want in life and I don't need anyone's permission to be who I am. I have ethics, I try to live each day with integrity and grace. I want the best for everyone I meet and know. I think positive and treat others as I want to be treated.
I think that men feel this same way and I wish what I said for 'everyone'..., both men and women who need to know they are worth it, that they matter. I feel that someone is searching, so I'm sharing this in hopes it gives you courage to be the person you are meant to be.
Now, I sit quietly contemplating my day, feeling a little apprehensive. At the same time a sense of excitement is building. Today is Monday, what will this day bring? The possibilities are endless. I woke up with a plan of how my day will be. You know going to work, making a paycheck which will enable me to pay bills, save money for vacations, or to use for a rainy day ..., wait it is raining, literally. I am after all in the pacific Northwest.
When you really think about it, we have no idea what will come to pass as we face each day. It is this fact that makes each day interesting and which gives the day a sense of mystery. I love mystery and the thrilling suspense of what is yet to come. I pray for a good day for my friends and family and everyone I interact with. Be safe and take each moment as as a blessing, because what you do with it is up to you.
Have a beautiful blessed day and may God be in your life.

It's never too late to learn
Since moving to Washington and getting a new job, life has been different. My work schedule is erratic and it is difficult to plan anything. I guess it isn't much different from my last job in that respect. The good thing is I don't get called out in the middle of the night, because someone didn't show up for their shift, or there's some emergency that involves the police, no more dealing with crisis calls, employees, scheduling, etc. In a way I miss the rush, being involved and I miss the unexpected.
Part of it is, I knew my job inside and out, I was respected, I knew what was expected, I was the leader, the teacher, the problem solver and the steady person who calmed people down. I loved the people I worked with and I miss them all. I became the person I am in part because of them and I am stronger because of it.
I now work with a a small group of professionals. We specialize in catering to people who wants beautiful jewelery. This includes all walks of life, all ages, all cultures. Our customers don't need our product, but they want it because it makes them feel good. I get to meet new people everyday, how cool is that? What a change from my last job.
I humble myself to all of my co-workers as they share their knowledge. Here I'm the student. I get to learn. I get to soak up new information and learn new behaviors, so I can apply it, and in turn become successful.
I have to tell you. It isn't easy to change your career when you're middle aged, but here I am, I'm doing it even though, what I do now is totally out of my comfort zone. Yet, I continue to come to my job just to see what will happen next.
I believe people come into your life for a reason. Just as there are reasons why people leave or cross paths for short amounts of time. Just as I believe that when we make choices about where we work there is a reason for it.
I just wanted to share my experiences and thoughts to you. I guess the lesson in this, is you can learn something new, no matter how old you are. You just have to have the courage to put yourself out there.
